Very excited to get this in the mail today. When I saw this for sale (cheap!) online, I had to jump at it. By far my favorite Spacemen 3 album. I have heard many bad opinions about Spacemen 3 over the years. And yes, even I, an ardent lover of minimalist music, have to admit that I find them boring after 2 or 3 songs. Maybe it's precisely the fact that they are still often too rooted in the rock/blues tradition. Well this album (or at least the glorious first 45 minute track, "An Evening Of Contemporary Sitar Music") stands apart from all that. I could (and have) listened to this track on repeat for hours. Beautiful, dreamy, entrancing... it draws you in and makes you disappear.
I also love that Pat Fish is credited for "joint rolling" in the inner sleeve 😂. I don't think I ever even realized that he was somehow associated with this recording. R.I.P., you butcher of jazz...
