Now Playing: The Fall's "Bend Sinister" for #FallFriday

Happy #FallFriday! Today I'm busting out Bend Sinister from 1986, one of my favorites. I wasn't hip enough in 1986 to discover this one then, I think it must've been in the 90s when I got into it- or was it the 2000s? That might be more likely, because I don't believe I ever owned this on physical media until this record. I probably downloaded it during the halcyon days of early Napster, Bearshare, Limewire, etc. I have a very distinct memory of listening to this during the winter in Alaska, circa 2002-2005. I remember driving back home after a poker game absolutely stoned out of my gourd. There had recently been a heavy snow storm, so all the streets were basically roughly carved out from the snow and piled up on either side, and the roads themselves a little intermittently icy and slippery from residual snow. Not very responsible of me to be driving in that state period, let alone in those conditions. All this to say I distinctly remember playing "Living Too Late" over and over during that drive home, and it was somehow very grounding and magical for me. The feeling and experience has been burned into my psyche somehow.

I bought this particular album in 2019, from Stranded. Apparently, I accidentally bought it from another place as well, as I seem to have an additional unopened copy of it. This has happened to me from time to time before I finally inventoried everything I have. I love that this silly hashtag has brought me back to my Fall collection, because this is sounding so fresh to me now. I think I must've overplayed it when I was first into it years ago. The artwork and the extra disc of tracks is another bonus, I'd forgotten all about all of this.

Etcetera, etcetera. Happy Friday, Fall fanzzzzz
