Whew! Just got through a major phase in cataloging my record collection. Time to reward myself by spinning an old favorite of mine: the groundbreaking Shimmy Disc compilation, "What Else Do You Do?"
Well, it was groundbreaking to me in the early 90s. I picked it up on cassette somewhere, I don't even remember where now. All I remember is that it blew my little mind, and would spend much of my time trying to collect every Shimmy Disc cassette I could find. Some of them were not that great, to be sure. But they were always interesting. They introduced me to lifelong obsessions that I still listen to today. Azalia Snail. Lida Husik. Rebby Sharp. Christian Marclay. To name a few.
Over the years I wound up getting rid of most of my cassettes, and of course I regret not keeping this one. I don't even have a work cassette playing right now, but I regret it. So I found this on Discogs, I believe. It's mostly faithful to cassette release, although it is unfortunately missing the Lida Husik track, "Fatigue"- which is a shame. Come to think of it, there's no Azalia Snail track on it either, I could've sworn there used to be one. I'll have to research this.
