Been big on Pink Floyd lately, and it's not just because I'm geeking out on my new commemorative cassette player (although that helps). I've just been feeling their earlier stuff a lot more, the post-Syd but pre-Darkside era, like Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, Ummagumma, etc. Syd will always be my absolute favorite era of them, of course, and it's been hard to break out of that to listen to much more.
And Darkside itself? Like everyone else, I've overheard this album, and have actively avoided listening to any of it for years. Maybe that's partly why it sounds so fresh to me now, and partly because I've been warming up to their catalog leading up to it. But it truly is a stunning, moody, glorious sounding album that still gives me goosebumps.
I think it's likely the last album of theirs I'll ever like, however. Every time I try something like Animals I'm just like, na. At one point I know that I loved The Wall a lot, but I think that's been overplayed for me as well. But who knows, maybe i'll open back up to all that eventually. For now, it's everything up to (and of course including) Dark Side.
